Oklahoma Background Check

Turn the broad background-check idea into concrete questions.

Open CHIRP from OSBI’s official page, register with a valid email address, and confirm the activation email before signing in. Create a new search with the person’s first and last name and date of birth. Up to three aliases are included; Social Security number is optional. Select the needed databases, review the cart, and pay only once.

Decide what record form would count as an answer. Use the next source only for the question that remains unanswered.

After payment, open Search Results and watch for the email notice. A Ready result can require Select Candidate: compare the candidate details carefully. Selecting NO Candidate does not confirm that no OSBI record exists. Use Request OSBI Verification when the purpose requires OSBI’s review or the candidate match needs resolution; staff-reviewed results are not necessarily immediate.

Use View Result to open or save the response. Save it while available: CHIRP results expire after 60 days, and resubmitting after expiry is charged again. If payment reports an error, check whether you were charged before trying again.

If the receiving agency requires a fingerprint-based or otherwise mandated check, confirm its instructions before buying a CHIRP name check. OSBI state fingerprint requests require original fingerprint cards by mail or in person; do not fax the cards. A personal FBI summary remains a separate record layer.

For example, the Oklahoma Board of Behavioral Health requires its new-license applicants to use fingerprint-based OSBI and FBI checks and says CHIRP is not accepted. That is a licensing-specific example, not a rule for every background-check purpose.
